N3×15 or Fred, I honestly prefer to call you Fred. I whole heartdly agree, becuase LL will never do jack about copy botting untill they are 100% forced to. A shitty little protest will do nothing. Oh and btw the only item on sl i would ever bother copy botting is the bitchin hat you wear.

Well, the primary issue is…. Is the most important one. What are the Lindens supposed to do in response to the protests? More specifically… What CAN they do?

Imagine it like this…IRL: You have all the supplies needed to make exact copies of things. You go to a store, and buy a shirt. How is the store supposed to stop you from making an exact copy of that shirt once you get home?? They can’t. The clothing company can file a Copy-Right infringement claim, but that takes time, and by the time it clears and you’re fined/arrested/whatever, you could of already sold/gave away thousands of counterfeit copies.

It is no different in SL, except it’s by far much easier.

The only thing LL CAN do is stop script theft, since scripts never reach the customers computer, unlike other assets.

As mentioned now two times in this blog comment string: MISC-3088 (Jira Issue).

If you do a boycott, YOU lose money. LL doesn’t. Best thing to do if you can’t sue and already voted on MISC-3088 is have a 48 hour SALE on the 5th and 6th to spread awareness of MISC-3088 and the class-action lawsuit filed in California.

My immediate opinion on this, is pretty much the same as yours. Not worth the effort to protest. Even if LL manages to somehow miraculously stop content theft client side (from CopyBots), content will still get stolen via GLIntercept, which is just as effective.

Protesting isn’t going to make a bit of difference, as you mentioned, LL gets most of its revenue through server rentals.

What really needs to be done is either, or both of these options, which would script theft, and permissions cracking if it’s #2.

1) Stop Source Code theft: MISC-3088
2) Overhaul the permissions system, it’s obviously faulty.

I actually proposed a buying and selling boycott in April 2008 as a way to express grievances:

If this is worth fighting for, then put some real skin in the game and take action that is likely to have a tangible impact. A boycott might do the trick. What if people stopped buying and selling for three days. Better yet, what if residents and merchants didn’t log in for three days. Now that would be a wake-up call if there was significant participation. It would also allow those with grievances to demonstrate that they are willing to make a real sacrifice to achieve their aims.

Well i cannot say that for sure although i believe he cant actually write code comments correctly since he never published his v5 source, but i see he has pretty much problems with that version since its far from stable. He released like 10 releases for version 5 and fags still have problems using it. And all that AFTER PN closed their SVN… how convenient isnt it?
