Fuck it.
First, I was forced to the change the name from FlexLife to Luna. Fine, whatever.
Next, I’m ridiculed for not using LINDEN LAB’S SUPERAWESOME SOCKET-BASED PLUGIN SYSTEM™® despite the fact that I had developed Luna’s Lua engine before Snowglobe even fucking existed. Whatever.
Finally, Linden Labs refused to change section 7 of the TPV, where all viewer devs are held legally liable for bugs, IN DIRECT FUCKING CONTRAST TO THE GPL.
I’m done with Linden Lab. I’m sick of these stupid fucking antics, the stupid rules that are suddenly sprung on us, the asshole administration, the snobby development community, and read-only communications. This shit has to stop, and it’s stopping now.
Luna’s done, over with, not going to be completed, period. I’m pulling the project due to legal issues and lack of interest in SL. Repos will be pulled tomorrow, so grab the code while you can, if you faggots still give a shit.
It’s not worth it to have to jump over obstacles purposefully laid out by a company that supposedly loves open-source everything, not to mention deal with a collection of snobby assholes in the development community that think that some easily-exploited TCP/IP-based plugin layer’s going to do squat, especially with a company that prefers to rape each developer for shits and giggles whenever they want. If they honestly want me, or anyone else, to submit patches, bug reports, etc. with a requirement that we all sign a waiver and reveal our RL locations and names, they can either give us jobs, or go fuck themselves. Since option A isn’t going to happen, Linden Lab can go fuck themselves.
This will probably be my last post here on anything SL-related. Now that I can no longer legally develop SL-based applications, I have only a few career choices left:
Since most of the qualifications I need are not within reach (have a few years left on my Bachelor’s), I can’t do much else. It sucks, but life does in general, so I’m just going to plod along the beaten path until I reach the end.
To Linden Lab, OSDev: Fuck you with a rusty rake.
To everyone else: Why the fuck are you still reading this?
It is a shame. To see a radical change in viewer would have been a good thing.
LL really need to take a look at themselves.
Aww, was actualy looking forward to a good viewer with actual features, not just a clone of Emerald with a couple feature changes like how 99.99% of all the other clients out there are. Well, another thing you can do is, if your into that kinda stuff, Game Designing. If you’ve read like the news, you can see how exploitive Gamers are if Modern Warefare 2 has made like a billion dollers in sales.
Hey Rob/n3x15 dude sl is dead even ive abandoned the shit hole it has became go to open sim if you want to waste your time with the virtual world bull shit or be like me and move to free lance coding for people. java being cross platform is what a lot of people want applications in these days. not to mention java is easy as shit if you can do c++ like i can then java should be very easy. go invent something fun or do gpu open source code applications to keep yourself busy. dont bother with second life bull shit. the game sucks ass now.
Hi, only just came across your site while looking into the TPV crap, and sad to say that this is the first i’ve heard of your viewer project. I did some fiddling myself with embedding a scripting language in the viewer (python in particular), but never took it further due to the contributor agreement and my unwillingness to maintain an ongoing fork – sad to see another similar project go down due to another bit of LL legal stupidity.
The good news is, capitalism generally works – eventually their stupidity will give competitors an advantage in the marketplace and LL will lose business faster and faster.
Sorry to hear that n3xi
I want to apologize for being a douche on your blog in the past.
That aside, SL is outdated. Something new and miles better will replace it at some point. Give your honest work to the likes of Open Sim, if Open Sim could just get somewhere near stable, i think it could be a very successful venture.
Best of luck to ya n3xi
ill give Harry linden your regards in the form of flying penises.
I love the rant. You are SO right.
Sorry I never got to see even as much as a concept screenshot.

Although.. i wish you were not reacting like this.. I really do see where you are coming from.
, especially the ones who don’t code and just regurgitate stuff they read somewhere.
The tpv really does take “it’s our server, we can do w/e we want” to the limit… very frustrating.
And the open source community.. well.. they can be very frustrating too
You know more than most that there will always be haters
.
The first 5 of your career choices look like they can keep you busy for a lifetime, best of luck to wherever you end up.

@lgg, I’m a non-coding open source regurgitator, and definitely frustrating, as I still can’t figure out how to blog right. However, I echo your sentiments regarding the demise of Luna, and also wish best of luck to n3xn15.
Regarding career choices, a bit of SQL can go a long way. Toad for Oracle would be a breeze for n3xn15. With some basic math and spreadsheet knowledge, there are lots of business analytics opportunities available, both within and external to web development. And one needn’t have the bachelor’s degree completed, as relevant skills are increasingly valued over credentials.

Urgghh, oops, told you I couldn’t blog right. Just realized that’s n3x15, NOT n3xn15….
